Documentary MIni Task

Documentaries are non fiction films that have designed to inform or educate the public. They can contain anything from natural life to human events.

An expository documentary contains an disembodied voice known as a voice over.  This is used to guide the audience through the images or footage . The voice over is also used sometimes to show the views in some some subject matters. A good example of this is Why we fight (2005).

The Observational form  is a documentary were  the directors captures the  what we we see on screen. However this is done without an interviewer or the director appearing  on the screen this gives an cover feel however this is not the case when people appear appear on any type of screen they have sign release form the documentary has to be made overtly. This mean that it could be argued that this type of  documentary   is transparent. e.g  Salesman (1969)

The interactive form is a documentary where  the interviewer or director is an active part in the making of the documentary. However this type of documentary is criticized on the fact that there is  an active agenda present and therefor it can  be argued  that the product has actively manipulated during the filming in order to push a certain set of views and values. There is also the problem with the of personal questions as sometimes the topic will make the the interviewer ask question that will make the interviewee uncomfortable  . This however means that the product has to have releases before the filming has started.. Secrets of Latin America
Here is a link to the documentary, Secrets of Latin America. In this sequence/clip/video we see that...

The reflexive documentary form is different from the interactive form in the way goes as as showing the
conventions used in documentaries this means  that  the product will show that it has constructed in order to show the audience that the documentaries are a representation of the truth . And therefore it not a hundred percent transparent. This means that the filmmaker's presence is felt by the audience.

The perfomative form uses dramatization and  re-enactments in order to show certain events. However this could be seen as manipulating the truth . Hover this method is used to keep the interested in the the subject matter because with out these dramatized it can be argued that this type of  product furthermore i will become a very dry part of the interactive form

In conclusion none of these forms of documentary are never telling the truth as that is in accessible hover do show representations of the truth . This means that the product is not going to a hundred percent objective
hover the fact that most documentary directors are trying  to remain  as objective as possible in order to obtain the truth can also be seen seen .

However with any type of documentary there is the problem of invading the privacy of the subject matter. In
for the film maker to bypass this he needs a talent release in for him to be legally protected as he will the signature of the interviewee agreeing on the footage of  him or her to be used.

  1. Angelo,

This feels very rushed. I am glad that you have covered the documentary formats but you do need lots more detail and you need to elaborate on access, privacy and your contract with the viewer too (your philosophy).

Your examples are not explained, sometimes you just write a name and sometimes you just put a link on. This post needs detail, explanation, clips, pictures and effort put into it.

I have referred you for GC1 (access, etc) awarded a pass (but only just) for GC2, which is the doc format bit. Please put more time and effort into your work.
